Things Remain Wonderful in Costa Rica
Lets not kid ourselves. The world is in tough shape right now. It's not that the world was ever easy, it's just that the current global financial crisis just seems to compound things. How does this mess relate to Costa Rica though? The fact is, compared to most places, this country remains a good place to invest and live in. Real estate values still abound and compared to the U.S., the cost of living is still relatively inexpensive. Ticos still like having foreigners here and you just don't see as much social strife here as you see in the U.S. and other countries.
On the real estate side, there is some bargain hunting to be had, particularly on the Pacific Coast where developers road the boom and now seem to be free-falling. In the midst of this, though, the Central Valley remains an excellent, stable option with the towns of Grecia, San Ramon and Atenas leading the way. These towns still offer a low cost of living, lower crime, friendly people and terrific value in real estate. More often than not these days, retirees and baby boomers are discovering these towns.
If you have to retire somewhere (and this blogger did!), Costa Rica remains a good choice. A couple of websites to check with with good value properties:

Or, to see a lot of choices, and how to best move here and live here, consider taking a Boomers tour:
