Garden Tips for Costa Rica

If you start a vegetable garden this time of year, you
definitely need
a good irrigation system. some garden crops do better in the dry
season and others in the rainy season. Ss for what crops to grow that
also depends on where you live. Here is a some information regarding some of
the plants you may want to grow in your garden. It is broken down into
inermediate to high elevations and coastal to intermediate elevations.
Also, in parenthesis is the best time of year to plant these veggies in
the central valley and the pacific lowlands. This is not the planting
months for caribbean grown gardens.
Intermediate to upper elevations:
aspargus(april-may), basil(all year), beets(may-nov), black berries(may-
june), brocolli(may-nov), brussel sprouts(may-nov), cabbage(april-oct),
carrots(april-dec), corriander(cilantro april-sept), cucumbers (dec-
august), eggplant(april-dec), garlic(dec-march),lettuce(april-dec), mint
(april-dec), onions(dry season), parsley(april-dec), peas(april-dec.)
potatoes(april-dec), rosemary(all year), spinach(april-dec),
Lower elevations and some intermediate pacific side:
ci=coastal/intermediate
bananas(ci, march-april), beans(ci,may-june/sept-oct)chayote(ci,april-
octber), chili peppers(all zones/april-oct), corn(all zones/april-sept),
ginger(ci,april-nov), lemon grass (all zones/april-june), melons(all
zones, dry season), mustard(all zones/all year), okra(ci,april-dec),
oregano(all zones,all year), pineapple(ci,april-may), squashes(all
zones, april-oct), taro(all zones,march), yuca (ci,march-april)
